    This changes the equation somewhat, I'll grant. If the candidate you prefer most has taken himself out of contention, then it's not a waste to vote for your favorite out of the ones who still are in contention.

    I simply think it's wrong to let anyone define "in contention" other than you and the candidates themselves. Not the media, not candidate partisans.

    My point is simply this: If someone asks you whether you want cake or pie, and you really want pie but say "cake," and you get cake, nobody has kept you from getting pie but yourself.

    It's better to vote for what you want and not get it than to vote for what you don't want and get it.
