  •  Don't forget Dean's 50 state strategy (0+ / 0-)

In the years since losing Iowa to Kerry, Dean has been rebuilding the Democratic Party from the inside out. He began years before Edwards and Obama started their campaigns. The fact that Democrats are competitive today all across the country is largely his doing (and George Bush's, of course). If we win congressional majorities, it will truly be his victory. The next president owes him a lot.

My hope is that Dr. Dean gets the mandate to remake the health care system from our next president. Whether Dean is named Surgeon General or to some other cabinet post or special position, he's the perfect guy to build a nationwide grass-roots consensus for a new health care system. We will only beat the insurance industry and big pharma when people unite behind a plan and demand the system they want, so grass-roots organizing in all 50 states is crucial. That is what Hillary's plan lacked in the 90's. Dean has proven he has the organizational skills to do that work. He's been selfless and tireless in his efforts. And who among politically savvy Democrats would be more credible as a health care professional? (He actually implemented such a system for children in Vermont.)
