...I'm the Friendly Neighborhood Vote Wrangler of alt.usenet.kooks, a position in which I run elections that give out awards for online crankery, lunacy, and extremely ridiculous and offensive online behavior.  Occasionally, the group gives one of its awards to people off USENET, even off the internet (for example, both Fred Phelps and Rush Limbaugh won awards for November).  This might be one of those occasions. If so, I have just the award in mind.

    The Douglas
    Grant Medal for Historical Revisionism

This award was instituted to honor the best example of
pseudohistory during a given month.  Qualifying posters must display
true pseudohistory, including deliberate historical revisionism, but
hiliariously bad misinterpretation of history and even spectacular
ignorance of historical facts above and beyond the usual cluelessness
exhibited by the run-of-the-mill net-ko0k will also qualify.

Good thing that award was approved just last month; it appeared just in time to recognize the sponsors of HR 888.

Is it possible to join this newsgroup?  If so, how?

      •  It's possible to subscribe to a newsgroup. (0+ / 0-)

Here are two ways you can do it.

        Google Groups

        http://groups.google.com/

If you want a simple and easy to use pure web interface and don't mind no binary groups exposing your IP address to the world (proxies will hide this, but people will still see that you're posting from a proxy, which will not make you very popular), then this is the one for you.  Just be warned that there some very net-savvy people out there, some of whom are not The Good Guys, so letting your real IP address flap in the breeze is not recommended!

        Motzarella

        http://news.motzarella.org/

This is a real news service provider, and it's free.  It also hides your home IP address, substituting instead the IP address of the server, which is in Germany.  You will need a real newsreading program. If you already have Outlook or Outlook Express, you can connect to Motzarella. If you want a program with a little more flexibility, download XNews, Microplanet Gravity, or Forte Free Agent.

In both cases, register using your email address at the URLs I provided, then reply to the confirmation email.  If you use Google Groups, you can reach the group here.  If you use Motzarella, you'll have to download the entire list of newsgroups on the server (which is in the thousands) and search for the group and subscribe.

        I hope my advice helps!
