  •  Call a Month Long Conference in First 100 Days! (1+ / 0-)

Whomever is the eventual Democratic president elected, he or she, if they are truly serious about reforming health care in this country need to prove it. One way would be to call and convene a month long conference (preferrably NOT in Washington DC) focused soley on Health Care within the first 100 days of the new administration. The new President would be not only the master of cermonies but an intergral part of the breakout sessions and other functions. The conference would need to be made up of people from every fabric of American life with an emphasis on those who have no health coverage or are underinsured.
Invitees would comprise of Public and Private sector individuals who deal in health care (from big companies to "mom and pop" operations as well as advocates and other interested individuals. The goal of the conference would be at least three or four differing plans of how we get to where we want to go in terms of Health Care in this country. I would imagine that some form of Universal Health Care would (and should) be the main attraction and end product that could be presented to the American people so that they could have an informed debate. Once these ideas are tossed around a bit in the public square, the new President will be able to set the initiative of getting legislation that would passed and the new health care plan inacted.
The new president should also either create or strongly advocate for the creation of a public "watchdog" group to be formed that keeps tabs on the new health plan's implementation and gives constant reports and feedback to secretary of Health and Human Services.

would certainly be there if asked... the funny thing is, the folks who provide the care and are having the system laid on their backs, are the last ones to be asked... we are just dictated to...

dont have enough money for the war? cut medicare reimbursement... dont want to pay more taxes? cut medicare reimbursement... its a wonder the system has any providers left in it at all...

and yes, i've spent a hell of a lot of time thinking about this and how it affects me, my patients, and the community at large.

      •  This is where the power of the President matters (0+ / 0-)
This is why if I were President that a called conference would be forefront on my mind and the foremost thing to do. The conference focus would be on the unisured and underinsured while the end goal would be o come up with a few acceptable plans to take to the voters to decide on.
        Thank you for your reply.
