  •  Should you be so inclined (none)
to crush your own spices, I cannot reccomend the following place highly enough:

    PENZEY'S SPICES

We don't have one hear in Boston, which depresses me no end.  Every time I go back to Minneapolis, I make a Penzey's run...and I'm constantly raving about it to friends here, even going so far as to give some of their blends as gifts (you MUST try the vindaloo seasoning--makes a great rub on pork chops).  A good friend of mine was recently in Chicago, and her brother took her to Penzey's.  When she got back, all she could say to me was, "I get it now."

    •  Too Funny (none)
I do happen to live in Minneapolis and either get my spices from Penzey's or from one of the elitist food co-ops. Certainly there must be some nice, well stocked co-ops with good spice selections out east?

Alas, I have no Graciela to crush the cardamom, so that task is assigned to my eager nephews and nieces.

      •  Well, (none)
they are running that "I want a Penzey's in my town" promotion, so my fingers are crossed for Boston.  Failing that, I just stock up on my twice-yearly trips to Minnesota.  Was just there a few weeks ago (god, the shallot pepper is fantastic on salmon).
