the citizen's vote got us Bush term 2.

While universal voting rights are nice in theory, they mean that the guy who was in a traffic accident and lost much of his frontal lobe (decision making skills) gets to vote the same as the nuclear physicist.  Biological science also now shows that males lose the brain cells that control decision making skills faster, and lose more of them the older they get.  And yet our government has MINIMUM age requirements for offices, but no MAXIMUMS, and no requirements for mental capacity of officeholders.  (ie, GW Bush)

A democracy in which all voters understood all of the issues and had open access to all aspects of the beliefs and reasoning behind candidates decisions would be a wonderful utopia.

The reality, however, is that most people who bother to vote will end up voting for 'the guy I like best', 'the one whose commercials make him/her look most like me', 'the one who promises to kick the most furriner behind', 'the one who is getting picked on', 'the one who is strong enough to pick on the others', etc, etc, etc.

None of the candidates walk on water.  Saints rarely run for political office.  In an ideal world, the electoral college would say 'while we understand that many of you would like to have a beer with GWB, he simply isn't presidential material'.

Sadly, we've fallen from the times when the electoral college was made up of the most well-educated, most thoughtful, and most steeped in political history people of the country.  The founding father's times, these ain't.

that way of thinking will lead to:

citizens that can vote need to be, white, protestant, land owner, educated (phd preferred - gets to vote twice), heterosexual, male, and big time party supporter.

      yea, right!
