    is a much different animal then clinton and obama.  Not many Dems dislike their candidates the way many Republicans dislike Romney.  Being from a place close to where you're voting isn't always everything, but in general it does help.

      "close" to NY. I live in MA, on the VT, NY border and we don't consider ourselves "close" to NY. New England is kind of separate from NY. Many in NE actually dislike NY so I kind of doubt people in NH saw her as some kind of neighbor.

        the New England states sorta define themselves in opposition to NY. If you look at a map, NY separates NE from the rest of the country. In a region with a strong sense of identity, NY represents encroaching other-ness.
