    I was born and raised in NC and have seen first hand what JE is refering to. I am fortunate to have one of those nice "comfortable desk jobs" that you refered to, but the rest of my family is not. I was only able to get that job because of four years of military service (another extremely underpaid job, but that is a whole other discussion)and full use of the GI Bill.
    I don't think any of the people that you refer to expect everyone to make the same amount of money regardles of profession. I think all we're asking, is to just bring a little more economic balance, and a little more respect to the blue-collar/service industry worker.
