"I believe in the Constitution, and it can only work when people operate it's mechanisms with honesty and good faith."

Autumnal has figured out that our Constitution doesn't guarantee us anything but the opportunity to make this country whatever we think it should be. If our founders thought they had all the answers they would have carved them in stone and told us to leave them alone. They didn't. They gave us flexibility to be whatever we want to be.

Republicans seem only believe in 'democracy' as means to an end, and once they are installed in seats of power openly intend to use it to re-write the whole works to their satisfaction and pretend it will stay that way forever as God intended it to. There is no longer any pretense that we are a group of disparate people who have different goals and can live politely side by side. Their reliance on their biblical righteousness and salvation convinces them that it is only right and proper to make the country over as it should be. And they rationalize that if anyone is offended by what they want, that's too bad because they lost the vote and they'll have to wait until last time.

Where is the good will to men? (Gender neutral 'men' as in mankind)

George Orwell is banging on the lid of his coffin and screaming, "1984 was a cautionary tale, you dolts, not a motivational speech!"
