  •  But Obama's core (0+ / 0-)

is not people who even remember Reagan. Clinton's support is strong among the older voters who do remember Reagan. But I think it's a storm in a teacup. I really don't see it hurting him. If you are not voting for Obama because of that, you probably were not going to vote for him, IMO. But this actually may help him ultimately if he is the nominee.

Obama needs to do well among Bay Area voters to win the state.

And it's not true that he appeals to people who don't remember Reagan - just today I saw a bunch of Obama supporters here in Monterey and none of them looked a day under 50.

Finally, lots of us folks who were kids during the 1980s know that Reagan sucks. I already voted for Obama, but, I do think this is going to hurt him.

    •  California has the most delegates (0+ / 0-)

and unless Edwards drops out, this race is definitely going through Feb 5.  Are you telling us it was smart of Obama to say that?  If not smart, then how much of an error was it?

      •  You noticed it (0+ / 0-)

but thousands didn't. You are over-estimating the weighting people give to stuff like this. The NV results will show that it didn't matter. People like a candidate for who they are perceived to be. What they say is only one factor and not even the main factor.

        •  Seems like the Nevada results (0+ / 0-)

showed it certainly didnt help Obama.

          •  Well, I think he did pretty well (0+ / 0-)

considering. The NV news is that it is now a solidly 2-person race. Let's see how Obama does in SC. If Clinton beats him in SC, he is done, I think, because that is a race he should win. We may be sitting around in a couple of weeks kind of agreeing with Bill Clinton on the "fairy tale" angle.

            •  I think Obama will win tonight. (0+ / 0-)

The problem with his supporters playing the race card too soon, and against the Dem opposition instead of against the Goopers in the GE, is that it loses its freshness and comes to seem an all-purpose complaint that covers all criticism of him.  Americans like a level playing field.

    •  Right those of us who remember Reagan don't count (0+ / 0-)

any more.  We need to be put out to pasture.  We are the old Democrats and the new breed is taking over.  Wonderful.  I have to find a new party.  I wonder where old Democrats go.
