    Yes, they were bad ideas. But Obama didn't say otherwise. He just said they had ideas.

    If that were all he said, I wouldn't have much of a problem with it.  But he did use a couple right wing talking points in there: referencing the excesses of the 70s; claiming that everyone thought that these were excesses.

    Also, if you watch the longer excerpt of that interview (the youTube clip is a little out of context) you see some broader perspective from him which I think helps explain his perspective in ways which make me both understand it a little better and find it more infuriating.  

    In the broader context, he talks about how he doesn't see movements the same way some older Democrats do, and I don't disagree with him, but his comments about th peace movements and Vietnam seem sort of insultingly dismissive to me; I think it's good that he wants to move past old arguments, but the way to move past them is not to just casually dismiss him.

    I don't think his comment is as bad as a lot of people seem to think it is; he wasn't praising Reagan's policies, but he is working from a framework which just buys into the pro-Reagan talking points, just like when he talks about social security in crisis or other such issues.
