  •  but Joe Blow who lives in a red state (0+ / 0-)

doesn;'t give a damn about the Renaissance Weekend, assuming he even knows it exists.

that's not the same thing as being the party of ideas.

    •  Well, where do you think the ideas (0+ / 0-)

come from?  The Party has to originate them and sell them to the public for starters.  Doesn't mean grass roots doesn't count, but a confluence of ideas starts in a lot of different places.  I am a long time Democrat, but the party has some real issues about how to craft themes and engage the party members.  I thought the party were asleep when Reagan was president.  They were scared to death of him and rubber stamped everything. No backbone even then.

the ideas that came out of the Renaissance weekends stayed in the convoluted language of the political elites and was never boiled down to concepts the average guy could understand and remember.

After seeing how well Reagan communicated his lies, it would be a wonderful thing if we had a Dem who could use the same tactics to communicate the truth.

O has a lot better chance to do that than JRE or HRC.

      •  in the case of the clintons (0+ / 0-)

the ideas mostly came from the republicans.

That's what Obama is getting at here.  The policy of triangulation resulted in democrats taking Republican positions so as to disempower the Republicans.  That's not a new idea in it's own right either.   That's an old idea. Machiavelli old.
