  •  LOL @ Cheney perceived as "moderate" (0+ / 0-)

I still think Bobby Jindal will be the first GOP minority to make it on a Presidential ticket.

Not sure which black Repubs are likely to make it among the current cast--Keyes is a proven disaster, Blackwell isn't much better (managed a whopping 36.8% against Strickland, and still would have been killed had it not been for Bob Taft's statewide criminal enterprise,) JC Watts has been out of office too long, Rice's problems are summarized well above, Steele maybe but he lost to Cardin by enough that it'll be hard for him to regain high-office credibility...

Bush was surrounding himself with the moderate voices of reason and experience -- Cheney, Powell, et alia were considered to be the grown-ups. Cheney himself, seriously, veered from being just conservative with a few moderate positions here and there (such as his stance on going all the way to Baghdad during the '91 war based on realpolitik) to his current state of looniness to the right of Attila the Hun.

As far as Bobby Jindal, let's just say Louisiana politicians in general have a hard time breaking out of their local niches, in large part because they have to break out of jail first. Maybe bubba j. will avoid a similar fate...
