A local forum has a right-wing troll (Roy Cohn esq) who calls them beat-niks. That's a pretty rare term these days.

    •  My folks were beatniks (0+ / 0-)

and it was a pretty rare thing to be.  Mike's Mom is definitely not a beatnik, but a farmer.

Motorcycle gang members are definitely no beatniks, though there were crossovers between the two anti-establishment "groups".

    •  Good Job Maynard - not bad Maynard (0+ / 0-)

I use that expression a lot and one day tried to figure out where I got it.
From Maynard G.Krebs from an old tv show with beatnicks, with Gilligan, before he as Gilligan he was a beat nick with the smokey coffee shop where people read poetry and smoked pot, before hippies existed or the Beatles.
Don't remember the name of the show.
I think beat-nics were the precursor to the hippie generation.
I think I was about 10 at the time.

NOW is time to uphold the Constitution and protect it from all enemies, foreign and domestic.
