    ...some Jews in the Roman Empire were treated well. There were also numerous Jewish revolts against what was seen (well, what was) and occupational government that occasionally over-interfered.

    That said, one can disagree with the ideas of Black Theology. The point is simply that Wright was probably not as much saying that Jesus was of African descent as he was saying that there are shared dimensions of social experience.

      The Jewish revolts were led by the Sacari who would shout things like "no lord but god". They were kind of like terrorists and the Romans had a problem with them. Yeshua never associated with them and there are red letter sections of the bible that are addressed to and condemning the Sacari. All that aside, what made Rev Wrights comments funny (to me) is that it made everything so Black and White. Not all Jews were brown people just as not all Romans were pink people (nobody is really black nor white). And the pink people in the Roman world didn't hate you if you were brown. There were white slaves in Rome and free black men in Israel (and Rome). It's all rather silly.
