Not sure where to put this, and I'm still on probation so I can't put it in a diary yet...but since we're talking about conservatives and their idiocy when it comes to the economy...

I just heard McCain say (at a rally yesterday) that in 24 years in Congress, he's never asked for or received an earmark, and his state is doing quite well without them.

So, one has to wonder: if Arizona is doing so well, why are they ranked 39th in per capita GSP? The per capita in Arizona was $36,457 in 2005. Sure, they're ahead of New Mexico ($35,714), Oklahoma($34,243), Maine($34,030), Kentucky($33,666), Alabama($33,264), Idaho($33,020), South Carolina($32,906), Montana($31,940), Arkansas($31,215), West Virginia($29,199) and Mississippi($27,829), but I'm not so sure I'd call that "doing well".

And I'd hardly be proud of being just behind, for example, Utah ($36,758), Vermont ($37,020), Michigan ($37,175), Louisiana ($37,183), Missouri ($37,251) and Florida ($37,846).

In fact, Arizona's output is approximately that of France (per capita GDP of about $35,000) and Britain (per capita GDP of about $37,000).

I'm not suggesting earmarks are wonderful, or that McCain should start grabbing a piece of the earmark pie. But I don't think I'd be as happy and proud as McCain seems to be about Arizona's economy.

    •  UK GDP is $ 47,000 per capita (0+ / 0-)

Higher than the US (for the first time in more than a century).

      Secularism is the new black.

      •  Do you have a reference for this? (0+ / 0-)

Because I see nothing indicating anything beyond what I posted, which was the estimated per capita GDP for the UK in 2006.
