  •  The only reason I'm voting for Obama tomorrow (10+ / 0-)

is that OTHER people seem to view him as some sort of messianic hero--which means I think he's got a better chance of beating McCain.

Personally, I judge all candidates on the scale of how many Bush administration officials will end up in jail.

Since the answer in either case looks to be zero, I have no strong preference for either.

although i'm recently getting excited about Obama, my main strategic reason is like yours--that he seems able to excite LOTS of people, and as you say, that makes his ultimate success more likely.

Maybe it's not so much about just me feeling something, maybe we should be a bit more selfless and value what can make others feel something as well.

All extremists are irrational and should be exposed

        That appeals to me, too.

But the two things that worry me are whether that excitement will continue in November when the media goes after him and the right wing spends 8 months discrediting him.  Maybe it will.  I hope so.  But I'm not that confident he knows how to keep the energy going for that long in the face of the kind of withering attack he hasn't faced yet (and I think everyone can agree that Obama has basically gotten a free pass the media that has basically adopted his narrative for the last two months).

The other thing that worries me is that the people he seems to be attracting are mostly young and college educated.

Can he attract the blue collar voters and the swing seniors?   I actually would guess that while his Super Bowl will help attract even more young people (and solidify those that already support him), it may have turned off even more older blue collar voters.

Hope I'm wrong, because despite the fact that I've decided to go with the sure thing over him, I do like him and will be pushing hard for him in the fall.
