    we're both worried about when the next viable female candidate will be shopped around.

    I wouldn't worry about that too much.  The next viable female candidate (assuming that the present one does not win, which is hardly a given) may very well come out of nowhere, just like the first viable black candidate did.  

    If you asked anyone in 2003 to examine the political field across the country and pick out a viable black candidate for the foreseeable presidential election cycle, you would have received blank stares.  In 2004 people would have said, "Barack Obama, but maybe in 8 or 12 years."

    Personally, I have been impressed by Claire McCaskill, and wouldn't mind seeing her run in '16 (after eight years of Obama, of course!). And coming from a swing state, that would make her candidacy that much more attractive.
