    Exit polling is good at telling you demographic information about the votes the candidates are getting.  That is why we know Clinton does better with down scale voters.  Exit polls however are terrible at telling us why the voters decided to vote for who they voted for.  Yes they ask questions along this line, but the truth is most people make their decision for nebulous reasons (who they identify with, their gut feeling, who they like), and then afterwards when asked will explain it as one of the standard answers (change, experience, the economy, shares my values, whatever.)

    So there isn't going to be a definitive answer as to why Clinton does better with down scale voters, but that doesn't mean it's not happening.
