I was stunned to learn that you are supporting the FISA overhaul bill that the Senate approved yesterday.

There is no reason why telecommunication companies should be completely and forever protected from investigation and prosecution for violating surveillance laws.  Providing this amnesty does not help protect America.  In fact, it empowers an already out-of-control Executive to threaten Americans and their privacy even more.

Please withdraw your support for HR3773, and instead support the RESTORE Act without modification.

I want a Democrat who will stand for Democratic and progressive values to represent me in Congress.  Please ask your colleague, Rep. Al Wynn, what can happen to Democrats who drift too far from what we stand for, and too close to the Bush administration.  I don't toss that comment out callously or lightly.  I believe primary challenges are an appropriate tool to make our representatives accountable to us.

I appreciate and respect your decades of service to the people of Madison County.  But I think you are wrong on this issue.  Please reconsider.

    Sincerely,
    Frank Thomas, Jr.
