  •  Without the Presidency our hopes fade (8+ / 0-)

The period between the 1994 elections and today are a vivid example of the power of holding the White House.

A damaged and savaged Bill Clinton was able to steer the nation in the general direction he wished even with the political problems facing him daily.

No matter how powerful Newt Gingrich's Congress was they too were impotent to defy a sitting President.

    Don't believe it?

Compare the same basic Congressional makeup (both houses) with Bill Clinton as President and then to the wide open Republican onslaught that occurred from nearly the moment George Bush took office.

    Still, more examples needed?

The current Congress as it is constituted is effectively neutered at every turn by ....guess who, George Bush.

Folks, this is the complete and stark reality to the fact the Congress, without the White House, merely is, at best, a weak and unsafe firewall against the political policy plans of any President.

No matter who we put up against the Republican candidate, the one over-riding fact is that without a Democrat in the White House, our goals are unachievable.

This is the true message that must filter down to every voter, no matter how politically disconnected they are, without them having command of the concept that the President is equal in power to 2/3rds of the entire Congress, voters could be susceptible to the extremely adept marketing machine of the Republicans.

I'll work my ass off for the prexy candidate. And pray that not only s/he wins, but others down ticket do too.

But those down-ticket candidates will have to do it without me, especially if they're incumbents, because they've done nothing in the last 14 months, and I'm tired of having to pay their salaries with nothing to show in return. They're going to have to re-earn my trust and faith before I'll support them -- and that, frankly, is going to take some work after the miserable failures they've given us.

The current focus needs to be Presidential, once that has been achieved, more work can be done.

Without the #1 position, hope fades for a change in this nation.

I will be working from here and I will also be working for our newly elected Democratic Congressman Ron Klein, he needs the help, his district is way to heavy in the Republican direction to not be active.

      •  Right with you (0+ / 0-)

Continue to reward unacceptable behavior, and the behavior simply continues because the perpetrators have no impetus to change.

        They deserve to be punished.

      •  we also need to (0+ / 0-)

not lose seats, or we'll find the Republican majority will have no qualms about impeaching, and demanding Constitutional equality.

        •  To be honest (0+ / 0-)

the way things look, there's little chance of that happening. But as Big River Bandito above you stated so succinctly...

Continue to reward unacceptable behavior, and the behavior simply continues because the perpetrators have no impetus to change

I see no reason to reward Nancy Pelosi, Rahm Emmanuel, or Harry Reid for their continuing failures. I'll go walk door-to-door for Dennis Kucinich, as he is a both a local candidate and I've watched him try to do the right thing (as much as kos would try to diminish him), but I'm certainly not going to blindly give money to D-trip-C and let them continue their debasement of my government.,
