  •  Obamacans (12+ / 0-)

I don't think that the Obama campaign is based on the idea that all Republicans can be "worked with."  Instead, I think, it relies on the idea that the worst Republicans can be beaten or marginalized if Democrats can capture the part the country that used to be GOP/independent but is now open to persuasion. The whole idea behind "Obamacans" is that there’s maybe a 30%-sized rump of the country that will be GOPers no matter what they does, but the rest are up for grabs, and he can grab them, and Hillary can’t.

    •  Obamacans seem to be coming out of the (6+ / 0-)

woodwork in droves, if my sample means anything.

First there was a neighbor who described herself as--believe it or not--a "Nixon Republican".

But the real stunner came last night when I talked to my 92-year-old stepfather. He's always been a Republican and still believes in supply-side economics because he hopes it works. He also slips and uses the word "colored" on occasion.

He'll vote for Obama but not Hillary.

Yep, I'm starting to think they're out there.

    •  Obama has demonstrated the ability (6+ / 0-)

to work with the other side.  I posted about the Obama-Coburn transparency bill today:

But there's a lot more, including work with Hagel, Brownback, and others, but none of it compromised progressive principles.

Answer all the easy questions first.

The ability of Republican hate-terror campaigning to work hinges on Democrats who have no ability or policy to win more than 51% or so.

If 5-10% more of moderates and historic undervoters can be courted into showing up, the hate crowd is just plain out to lunch.

And the middle moves back left toward some kind of rational position.
