    by that.

Hillary is in the same position as Kerry was in 2004. Having voted for it, and sticking by it. Even while critiquing the war.

I chalk this up to naivete that anyone with a thought of running for President in 2002 would have voted against it. Politicians are so mealy-mouthed that people act surprised when votes like this happen. The only person who even thought of running having voted against the resolution was Feingold, but he quickly decided not to.

it's the tone. "Clairvoyant" my ass. As if the people who could conclude the transparently obvious from the trivially self-evident were freaks who believed in UFOs.

Whatever his faults, Kerry never treated the people who disagreed with his vote with this kind of backhanded contempt.

It's not even a good way to discuss the real reason Hillary voted for the AUMF, that her husband had set forth plans for regime change in Iraq and she was perfectly content to vote for legislation that worked along the lines that most of Establishment Washington favored anyway, whatever the excuse they fed the public. That's why she didn't read the intelligence reports: The invasion was a foregone conclusion in her mind.

        Hillary didn't say that.

        Chelsea did.

Critiquing Chelsea's use of clairvoyant is way over the top when it could refer to a great many things (ie. agreed with the vote, but would have done things differently, if only I'd known that Bush would be an imbecile.) In other words, exactly what Kerry said.

Chelsea is a daughter, not a politician. These aren't Hillary's words.

And personally, I think Chelsea's right. a vast majority of Democrats make these votes by sticking their fingers in the prevailing wind. Chelsea's remark speaks to that. We have 75% of the country thinking Iraq was a horrible idea. In 2002, 80% of the country was in FAVOR of invading. Doesn't that speak to clairvoyance?

It's the same thing with Kosovo even. People go along with it because they want to be on the right side of a military victory. No one critiques the way the war is conducted. Clinton was in charge on that one too, and when it started to go badly, and he went after Albright/Berger for screwing it up, he had his share of critics from the other side of the aisle. The clairvoyant statement would have been a defense back then too given how it ultimately turned out.
