    When thinking about Cuba, we tend to forget that poverty in many other Latin American countries is as bad or worse than in Cuba.

      Free schools and free universities would be a thing of the past.

      One thing that is truly amazing in Cuba is how well educated many people are.

      No offense to Dominicans but in the Dominican Republic we were discussing baseball.

      And in Cuba we were discussing...err baseball as well.

      But also avantgarde cinema, classical music, world art, postcolonial literature, new medical cures and Linux.

        It's no accident they have the lowest infant mortality rate in Latin America, essentially the same as the U.S. (I think the latest figures show it a bit lower), and substantially lower than inner-city U.S. rates.
