    But his record in the Senate on the environment, my key issue, is rather poor. Others have pointed out his support of liquid coal and other bs along those lines. He also did not stand up and oppose Bush's rollback of the Clean Air Act (Clear Skies). Guess who saved us from that disaster? Lincoln Chafee. Guess why it took a Republican? Because Obama and Baucus wouldn't stand up and publicly commit to opposing Bush's removal of 30 or so years of clean air progress. I'm not sure why they even considered, for a moment, not vocally opposing the destruction of the Clean Air Act.

    I know this because I was on the Hill at that particular time. "Paper" legislative records are horribly misleading. What's important is the level of involvement in issues, something that's impossible to measure with a laundry list of bills. Politicians know that there's a paper trail connected to cosponsorship but not to important, behind the scenes work of lobbying and advocating for causes.
