But I think some of what appears to be people celebrating Obama are actually people celebrating the idea of believing in America again.  It is not just Obama that gets them fired up.  Its seeing all the hundreds of thousands of people across the country that feel the same way and it makes you think that maybe its possible to start fixing this mess.  Your diary is excellent because you hit the central point - its not really about Obama, its about us.  The feeling that many of us had when we discovered places like DailyKos and realized we weren't alone in our thinking.  The feeling that many of us felt watching Howard Dean's campaign.  The feeling that many of us have right now watching Obama's campaign.  He's great and that fires me up.  But really, its seeing everyone else feeling hopeful and mobilizing that is really the source of the inspiration.

    At least for me....

but I also think that some of the presumptions that Bill Clinton was attacking Barack racially were a bit over the top and rabid considering his history and relationship with the Black community - he shouldn't have been treated that way.

        What about

        Bill Shaheen
        Mark Penn
        Bob Kerrey
        Bob Johnson

        ?

Bringing up a (half-)black candidate's cocaine use in his troubled youth (Shaheen, Penn), then referring to his "Muslim faith" (Kerrey), then indirectly bringing up the cocaine issue again after the furor had dided down (Johnson) is the most blatant race-baiting I have seen since the Harold Ford Super Bowl ad, and although it is probably to be expected from the Reich Wing, IT HAS NO PLACE being used by an (albeit corporate) Democrat against a (Proud Progressive) Democrat.

I also believe that the excitement we are seeing is pushed by Obama, but it isn't about who he is personally.  People are excited because they have been waiting for a candidate to say, "It's ok for you to believe again."  "We are the ones we've been waiting for."  One of the best lines ever.
