  •  This, unfortunately, is not new. (12+ / 0-)

For decades antiabortionists and foes of contraception have vilified Margaret Sanger as a racist and claimed that Planned Parenthood is racist. The humane and praiseworthy, non-racist approach is of course for black women (and all women) to be forced into back-alley abortions or attempts at self-abortion after all modern forms of birth control are taken away on the grounds that they might interfere with the implantation of a precious fertilized egg.
Margaret Sanger was in touch with all the progressive movements of her time. These unfortunately included eugenics, now thoroughly discredited but then very popular. American eugenicists actually helped inspire the Nazi delusions about race, as Edwin Black documents in his fine history of the eugenic movement, War Against the Weak. But none of that means that sparing women exhaustion and early death from continual childbearing is a bad idea.
