I didn't mean your comment specifically.  I was referring to the general tone of responses here.  Read the comments below.  Look at how many of them accuse Susan of racism.  It's really something to see.

Yeah, Jeralyn wrote the original story.

...Debbie Schlussel recently, a woman who wrote:

"Barack Hussein Obama: Once a Muslim, Always A Muslim" and posted on her website, right-wing pundit Debbie Schlussel argued that because Sen. Barack Obama's (D-IL) middle name is Hussein, his late, estranged father was of Muslim descent, and he has shown interest in his father's Kenyan heritage, Obama's "loyalties" must be called into question as he emerges as a possible Democratic presidential candidate. In the column, Schlussel asked: "So, even if he identifies strongly as a Christian ... is a man who Muslims think is a Muslim, who feels some sort of psychological need to prove himself to his absent Muslim father, and who is now moving in the direction of his father's heritage, a man we want as President when we are fighting the war of our lives against Islam? Where will his loyalties be?" She ended her column by asking if Obama becoming vice president instead would be acceptable. Answering her own question, she wrote: "NO WAY, JOSE ... Or, is that, HUSSEIN?"

Any accusations of racism have been earned.

      •  Can she please be held up to a standard (10+ / 0-)

that requires proof for any assertions she makes?  She is lying and defaming a Democrat and killing Hillary here at DK in the process.

and in what context Susan cited this person??

In that context, Obama should go scot-free when he has an anti-gay performer have rallies for him, with the sanction of the campaign?

Yeah, I forgot. This is Animal Farm.  Different rules for different poeple.  My bad.

      •  then the charges (0+ / 0-)

against Barack that he's homophoic are true?  It's possible to agree with some things and disagree with other, says Barack.  How can you call someone a racist  who's reporting what's happening? That is soooo wrong BarbinMD, so very wrong. Obama won't like you, and he likes everyone.

I said that Susan shouldn't be surprised to be called a racist when you consider (giving just one example) sources she's cited to make a "point."

And really, the childish remarks are, well, childish.

you defended her being called a racist, BarbinMD, why would you want to do that?  Isn't it better to hide those racism charges and get people to respond to the diary, and not join in defaming the diarist?  Aren't you one of the adults?

      •  Barb, I heard about your comment (6+ / 0-)

First, I never published anything by that woman here at Daily Kos.

Secondly, I did not know the woman' reputation or history.  (Call me ignorant if you wish, and that'd be a fair accusation, but it was by accident that i ever saw her site, as was the case here -- I'd seen a link to her story on another blog, and followed it -- and was worried about what I read.)

The only reason I brought up what she wrote -- her site was new to me - was that it was an example of the extreme efforts that the GOP would go to  in order to attack Obama.

As for why I am concerned about Barack Obama:  I don't think he has enough experience to be considered a serious candidate at this point in his career for the presidency.  It is his gift for oratory that has propelled him to such popularity.  But that isn't enough for the presidency.

Honestly, i never got it.  I listened to his speech in 2004, and wasn't especially moved.  But that's just me.  I accepted that others were very excited by him.  AND I was THRILLED when he won the U.S. Senate seat!  It was a great night -- and I remember how happy his victory made me.

Then i listened to him in hearings in the U.S. Senate and again wasn't that impressed.  But, so what ... however, I do not see him in the Oval Office.

I do see John Edwards in the Oval.  AND HOW.  I do see Hillary Clinton in the Oval.  And how.

NOW -- it has been devastating and incredibly disappointing to see the attacks on me here.  Including this one, which is -- honestly -- a fictional narrative of how I am thinking that you cannot possibly know, Barb.  You don't know me.  You SHOULD recall my writings here for two years about the harm done to Iraqis and Afghanis by the U.S. military and the crime of extraordinary rendition.  Be that as it may.  Had you ever asked me by e-mail, or ever called, I'd have gladly told you the above.

But the attacks here have been beyond any reality.  It is a crime, I get it, to oppose Obama.  It is wrong to be for Hillary.  Okay.  Those are the ground rules.

I also know that the ground rules here are to write what people want to read.  Not what one really thinks.  I get it.
