I don't really see how kos making a reasonable call based on the evidence provided is really a sign of idiocy. The Clinton camp played around with darkening a black opponent (not saying it was intentionally "blacker" but they obviously at least did the doom and gloom coloring you see all the time.) They hit a cultural nerve in the party and it blew up.

The kind of defense that is provided is the standard MO for defending dog whistling. It's impossible to definitely prove intent or the lack thereof. Markos doesn't buy it. I'm not really sure either way but I can certainly see his take.

The only boneheaded move came in the editing room and the upload process to youtube (if that is really what caused the problem.) New media isn't just an afterthought anymore, you have to be just as careful and mindful of the product you throw up on the web as you are in print and tv.

    Perception is everything.

    Grunge is still in... right?

theory they like about what happened, and the motives behind it.

What is embarrasing, to my mind, is to see people take severely faulty technical analysis as "indesuptable" proof of something.

There is NO POSSIBLE way that anyone can draw entirely accurate conclusions about these subtle kinds of video level shifts unless they can analyse the ACTUAL production workflow. Every time you download or capture or upload you're potentially introducing NEW variations from the source.

And that's where the rabbit-hole part comes in: the more websites we have trying to "prove" things, the more the video alters, and before you know it the Queen of Hearts is saying, "Sentence first, verdict after."

but it's known to be done in advertising. And Time Magazine did it too.

That said I think this is a non-issue in the grand scheme of things.

        •  I would agree: it MAY be true. (1+ / 0-)

But the evidence presented has been misinterpeted and misunderstood to a level rappidly approaching the comedy of Kennedy Assasination buffs "proving" the Zapruder film was faked.

For years the right wing noise machine has been trying to paint Kos and the community as a left-wing lunatics. I really hate to see us starting to live up to that slur.
