I am a bit skeptical. I'm not skeptical that a Dem could win there because afterall that's the hope of a 50-state strategy. I am skeptical of why those two states show good numbers for Obama in the west. Here's my guess:

Obama has either campaigned there and/or had field offices/volunteers in both states.

yup. 50-state strategy. I think Montana is more likely to go Obama than either of those two states and I think after Obama campaigns and/or opens field offices in states like Montana and South Dakota, they're numbers for him will rise as well.

i meant to make more sense than that! my point was he campaigned in Nebraska, he had field offices and volunteers in North Dakota. He won both states by really nice margins. Basically, once a state gets to know Obama, his poll numbers rise. ND and NE have received that effect. MT and SD will receive that effect soon too... once Obama gets to campaign there, and my guess is his GE poll numbers will rise there as well.
