    These statements are incredibly destructive and it is in the interests of all Democrats to denounce them loudly, clearly, and quickly.  I say they are destructive to ALL Democrats because, (1) if HRC gets the nomination, this kind of thing will alienate a lot of voters in the general election; and (2) if Obama gets the nomination, the Republicans will be able to point to the statement of a prominent Democrat claiming that he is unqualified and was nominated only because of his race.  Therefore, this is a matter that should concern Howard Dean and the DNC, not just the two campaigns.  Dean should promptly issue a statement, (1) denouncing Ferraro's statements; (2) making it clear that these statements are an insult to the millions of Democrats, both black and white, who have voted for Obama; (3) making it clear that both candidates are eminently qualified to be President and infinitely preferable to the Republicans, and the two campaigns and their surrogates should confine their remarks to the merits of the two candidacies, and eliminate race and gender from the discussion.
