I'm a feminist and went to the Earth Day celebration. I guess that makes me dogmatic?

On the plus side, we got to tour the Big Green Bus, learned about the move to eliminate bottled water from campus, and found out that roughly 25% of the non-food waste on campus is recyclables that are not recycled. Plus they have an incredible composting system which is used to create compost for the campus plantings and organic garden.

The water demonstration used compostable plastic cups made from corn starch. When you'd finished your taste test, you tossed the cup in a special bin for compostables and went on your way. ECO then took them to the compost facility.

There is a small cadre of deeply committed folks trying to shift the campus toward sustainability.

The Sierra Club had a table there from which they gave out free compact fluorescent bulbs. A crew from the maintenance department stopped by and took an entire case of them, while we were there.

It wasn't particularly Spanish Inquisition-like (unless you mean the Monty Python version) but the sun was shining and people were friendly.

Beware the everyday brutality of the averted gaze.
