I'd love to run one day soon, truth be told.  We are so close in New Jersey - the courts are on our side, as is Governor Corzine, and there's a lamentable faux-moderate Republican State Senator currently representing my district.  Ironically, she's a graduate - a typical one at that - of the horrid (as far as LGBT and other such issues go) university I currently attend.

Unfortunately, I think I'd need money more than votes! In the November off year election, the candidates spent $3 million combined for a State Senate seat, if you can believe it, with millions more coming in from the bigger statewide committees.  It's more expensive to run for State Senate in New Jersey than U.S. Senate in most other states. :: sigh ::

"Keep going." You can do it. Just get involved as best you can, make friends, do good, express your wishes. I'm old (40s) and know that there is so much ahead of you. So start now and trust the process. We need you!

      •  I'm working on it, believe me (3+ / 0-)

My mother (who is not religious at all, but loves these kinds of maxims) always said to me "God helps those who help themselves," so I know that if I work hard I'll get there.

I'm actually really thankful to have working in an internship the least two summers for a very wealthy and well connected real estate developer in Manhattan who I'm counting on as a (completely ethical) benefactor.  Such is the nature of these things.  I promise I'll sell my professional soul only as long as I absolutely must.  :-)
