the frame. There never really was a surge. All that happened was that some troops stayed longer and others stayed late. Then they abandoned positions in outlying areas and put them into the capital. The actualy troop levels have never really been signifigantly different from any other time in the occupation, and they are still less than they were in the early months of the invasion/occupation.

What really happened was a change in tactics that have seen a five fold increase in airstrikes. So, casuality figures have gone down because US troops instead of doing a search and destroy mission through a neighborhood, are just acting as spotters and call in airstrikes instead of engaging. This coupled with bribes to the Sunni militia and Sadr's ceasefire led to a decrease in violence toward US troops. But the violence in Iraq never really dropped.

The reality is that there is no surge. Never was, never will be because US force levels won't allow it.

And the really sad part is, that we now have Democrats saying that they think they might vote for McCain.

America is one fucked country. Now I remember why I don't live there anymore. At least in Japan I get health care, and dental, too. Japan has frickin' dental, dude. How cool is that?
