  •  Just remember, thimerosal was removed (8+ / 0-)

from all pediatric vaccines (with the possible exception of multi-dose vials of flu vaccine) in 2001. Given that autism is most commonly diagnosed before or around the age of 3, if thimerosal were causative in the majority of cases, we would have expected the incidence of autism to begin dropping preciptiously around 2004-2005. That hasn't happened. The epidemic continues, even though the population's exposure to thimerosal is now almost non-existent.

It is of course likely that mercury is a factor, along with genetics, but the mercury we all need to be worried about is environmental mercury, the stuff spewing from factories and coal plants, falling down in our rain into our water and soil where it incorporates into the fish we eat and food we grow.

We so much energy and venom has gone into vaccines versus the poisoning of our environment has never been clear to this public health professional and aunt to a severely autistic teenager.

you have to look into the face of a child who had speech until a couple of days after a vaccine but is now forever silent, then maybe it will be clear to you.

That is the experience that has happened to thousands of people in this country and around the globe for 30 years.

Thimerosol is only one of a variety of possible culprits. The truth is that the precise connection has not been determined, but the anectdotal evidence is overwhelming.

childhood vaccines starting in 2001, but existing stockpiles were not recalled or removed from use.  Even today, multi-dose vials of vaccines can contain 'trace' amounts of thimerosal, and you should assume there's some mercury in vaccines unless they are specifically labeled themerosal-free.  And then there's the good old flu shot (aggressively pushed for pregnant women, infants and toddlers) which still contains a full complement of thimerosal.

It should also be noted that the government settlement which has triggered so much discussion lately wasn't focused on mercury in the vaccines, but admitted that the vaccines themselves caused the child's autism.
