should be in the Senate in my view, and in a rational world, he, and not Menendez, would now be New Jersey's junior Senator.

But it is too much to hope for rationality in New Jersey politics.

Frank did us a service when he stepped in at the time of the Torrecelli mess, and his "chickenhawk" presentation was a classic.  So I appreciate Frank.

I do not think that a man is dead either when he is still breathing - and one doesn't stop being human when one is old - but we could in fact, use someone fresh.

I frankly wish that Frank were retiring again, but I have no love for Andrews.   He's not my first alternate choice.  He's not even on my list.

But look, the "kick the old guy because he's old" strategy works.   It's how Alfonse D'Amato, thug, replaced the last ethical Republican to ever have lived - that would be Jacob Javits - in the Senate.  Of course, it would be horrible to have yet another D'Amato in the Senate.

(Javits has the distinction of being the only Republican for whom I ever considered voting, but I didn't go through with it.)

I have a diary kicking around that touches on the topic of New Jersey politics and John Corzine - not my favorite guy - and I may publish it some day.   It's called tentatively "Visualizing the Molecular Biology of Tumor Margins and the War In Iraq."
