I'm not going to slam you. But when MLK became an issue in his state he owed it to his mostly white constituents to do his due diligence. They have tons of libraries in AZ and I'm sure he can read. But thats being a little generous me to say so. Like someone posted earlier, he knew damn well who MLk was and what his impact on history was in terms of civil rights in this country. I wouldn't call McCain a racist but a "xenophobe and an elitist". Hell, he dump his first family in order to move up the social latter. With this in mind does anyone thinks he really cares about what "we, the people think?" That is why is so condescending to reporters and others when they challenge him on anything.

Your use of the term "elitist" is interesting, and I think it's right on the money. McCain was, and is, a member of the white ruling class, a text book example of an elitist. As such, he just didn't make it his business to care about those who weren't fellow members of that class. At some point, when the screaming about the MLK holiday got loud enough, he finally bothered to ascertain the facts. Until then, it was intellectual sloth and indifference. Didn't know, didn't care. But again, alot of white people who didn't learn this stuff in school, ie McCain's generation, were very late to learn about Dr King. It isn't fair to single out McCain, although I'm in favor of doing so if it helps Obama win in November. :)

It is that these willfully ignorant, balkanized and out of touch people, dominate our nation's most critical political and financial institutions. The results speak for themselves.

Regarding the Rule of Law, I can be considered a single issue voter.
