chairmanship if we pick up just a few more Dem senate seats in this election, so that Harry Reid does not need Joe to form a Senate Dem caucus majority anymore, and Joe knows that.

Joe's support for McCain will NOT go unnoticed and will NOT be rewarded with a continuing Dem committee chairmanship.

If we pick up a few more Dem senate seats and then Reid does not strip Joe of his chairmanship, then Reid himself will be in serious jeopardy.

Yeah, the senate Dems applauded Joe in 2006, but in Jan. 2009 they will stick the knife in Joe just as soon as Joe is no longer needed by them to get a Senate Dem caucus majority.

McCain: "I think that clearly my fortunes have a lot to do with what's happening in Iraq" ... Buh-bye!

The Dems will control the Senate, add about 5-7 senate seats.  He's out as chair, he becomes irrelevant, would get kicked out of party. Can no longer be pet democrat.

If Obama wins, he has no power.

If McCain wins, he gets a job in the McCain administration (Sec. of Defense) and Jodi Rell, the Republican Governor, appoints a Republican to his seat.

He's putting all his eggs in the McCain basket.

I shall not rest until right wing conservatives are 4th party gadflies limited to offering minor corrections on legislation once or twice a year.
