Clark would easily offset any national security advantage the GOP might pretend to have.  He's Swiftboat proof, too, and has done a lot over the past 4 years for Democrats across the country.

I just wish the grenades being lobbed between Clinton and Obama weren't getting so personal.  I voted for Hillary in the primary, but I'm not happy with some of the low blows she's been dealing Obama.  She's stirring up a lot of animosity in the AA community, which is a crying shame after all the goodwill her husband built up.  She has been a pretty lousy campaigner IMHO.

Clark endorsed Clinton (which makes sense given their Arkansas roots and his career trajectory during President Clinton's administration), and if Clinton/Obama don't make nice soon it's hard to see Obama reaching out to a loyal Clinton supporter, even on with Clark's stellar creds.  I now wish Clark had stayed neutral, but I understand why he made an early endorsement.

Other than his fruit salad and cred as a military analyst who is willing to bash Bush with vigor, what does he bring to the ticket?

      Democracy is a contact sport...

      •  Webb is compelling. (1+ / 0-)

I like Clark but tend to agree. OTOH, I've always been somewhat riveted when I've seen Webb in interviews. He's well-spoken and smart. That's a variation of the ticket I could get behind.

      •  Clark ran very comparably with Edwards in 04 (1+ / 0-)

and I don't remember anyone saying Edwards was lousy on the stump. In fact, Edwards got a veep spot in 04.  I don't think Clark did too badly for a guy who never held elective office in his life.

As for what he brings, I think Clark brings Arkansas and brings a whole lot of "moderate" Floridians (among others), who care about military issues.

Clark has campaigned around the country since 04 and helped a lot of Democrats, I think he's a lot better on the stump now than when he was a political rookie in 04.  Plus, he doesn't remove any Democrats from the Senate.

Incidentally, I still think Clark would have done better in the general in 04 than Kerry or Edwards since things seemed to turn on National Security issues.  Democrats didn't trust him because Edwards trotted out Hugh Shelton to impugn his character, and there were whispers that he was a closet Republican.  Too bad, I think Democrats missed a real opportunity there.
