Last year, we finally removed a huge (almost 2000 square foot!) side lawn that never looked good.  All Kentucky bluegrass of course, and my wife and I got tired of trying to turn our side yard into Kentucky while living in Colorado. The space now has 3 native conifers (occasional spot watering only) and a bunch of mulch, and we're planning to put in a bunch of drought-tolerant plants.

We still have a small patch of lawn in the back -- enough to put a hammock and some chairs on if we like.  But that's really about it -- about 80% of the lawn that our house came with is gone.
