    The Ogallala aquifer is fossil water that can't be replenished since the conduit from the Rockies that created it was cut off eons ago. Most aquifers in the country aren't quite as old or deep. The water running through most aquifers in the Northeast, for instance, measure through-put in months or years rather than eons.
