    He's a fascinating study. But I do think it was those events and his personal interpretation of them that shaped his world view.

    Like integration did destroy the black community in many urban areas. So some, like Thomas, concluded that integration was unnecessary to some extent. Others would argue separate but equal had existed for decades and more black families were poor then than there are now with integration.

    There are logical ways to come to the differing conclusions. I think Thomas, who was a quiet, outsider guy to begin with, really internalized a lot of this and his hurt and came up with this particular view.

    Now with 35 percent more snark!
