    of guns.

Are the gun nuts keeping us from the change we need?

    •  Did you fall and hit your head? (9+ / 0-)

That is quite silly - without guns in the hands of citizens do you think anything would stop the Bush administration from "interrogating" you, too? Nope, it wouldn't - if they'll sexually assault children in Iraq, they'll be doing it to your kids next ... unless you're in a position to draw down and put a stop to it. We, The People are likely to remember the meaning of the Second Amendment in a deep, personal fashion very soon. Even if we don't have to get aggressive in our requirement for a return to the rule of the law we may end up being the law for a good long while - go have a Google for "Ferfal" and "Argentina" - he was there during the currency collapse. Not pretty, not pretty at all.

      •  Where do you find a gun with a moral compass? (2+ / 0-)

And a gun nut more than likely voted for Bush and supports his policies.  If it comes to a violent change, which is what you suggest, it is better and safer not to have guns around

      •  Guns won't stop them from interrogating you (2+ / 0-)

If the US military wants to send s citizen to Gitmo they can - no private gun ownership is going to stop it. This is what gun nuts don't realize. Their fantasies are merely that - unrealistic wet dreams.

When it clicks for people that they're subject to this type of behavior do you think they'll just lay down and take it? If you're going to be taken a tortured anyway for your political views there is no point to being taken with anything other than an empty magazine in your rifle.

We're going to get back a broken army ... lots of guys who know all about urban warfare coming back to a ruined economy and no V.A. benefits. I don't think people quite get just how wrong this could all go ...

          •  They don't go after everyone at once (8+ / 0-)

It happens piecemeal, and usually for "national security" or "rule of law" reasons.

I mean, how many people have defended immigrant communities with guns? Whole families have been rounded up and thrown in concentration camps; this has been going on since late 2006. And no armed resistance.

I know gun owners keep saying they'd resist, but it never, ever works that way. The ONLY way to protect your freedoms is through the political process. If you have to pick up a gun to protect your rights, you've already lost them - and are likely to lose your life in the process as well.

but the time for the guns to have stopped the collapse of our republic was several years ago. i place no faith in the gun owners at this late date.

        •  fragmentation of the U.S. (5+ / 0-)

If it really gets ugly we see fragmentation - the survivable enclaves of Cascadia, the upper Midwest, the Great Lakes, and the upper Northeast gain population, while the southeast and southwest fall into chaos due to fuel, food, and water stress.

If they don't have a good, wet summer in Atlanta they'll be into the dead pool in Lake Lanier and right after that the whole place gets evacuated. We couldn't deal with a city of 500k on the move ... what happens when it's 9x that many people?

that I lived in a near perfect region if things were ever to go completely crazy in our country.

Tons of water, good farmland, abundant wild game, the Northern winds for energy production and in the middle of damned nowhere, where it's too cold for most sane people to want to live at...

I think the only better place to be than Northern Michigan if doomsday were to come would be the Upper Peninsula.
