To respond to Kos - It's the Kabuki Theater of the thing.

I started watching late, didn't bother go online or whatever to check out what I missed. The first thought I had while watching was that Obama seemed a little off his game. I haven't seen a lot debates, admittedly, but I have seen a few. Obama is usually pretty smooth, and on the parts that I saw, I'm actually going to say that Hillary sounded better.

Now saying that, the 2nd thought I had was there must have been a lot of asinine questions before I watched. I jumped online and realized I came in at the Iraq question. Which I believe is the 1st question of real substance.

The effect it had, it seems to me, was to knock Obama back on his heels. Hillary has an advantage here - she really knows how shitty "news" organizations are, especially the networks - so she seemed able to switch gears better. Of course the conspiratorist in me wonders different thoughts, knowing Stephanopolous' ties to the Clintons and the earlier word of what questions he'd be asking - proven correct. Either way, it had the same affect. However, I believe it has backfired on them. Watching the immediate response on the teevee was completely different from browsing various news blogs comment sections. The disconnect was startling, with - I believe - Charlie Taylor giving a half-hearted defense of Gibson and Shorty's terrible moderating to Keith O. CNN showed a similar pair. The overwhelming majority of commentors, bloggers, etc ... hated the debate, with the few dissenters sounding like shills.

I'm curious to see how the Daily Show covers it. I'm looking forward to that. And I wonder if this is going to be the straw that breaks the dam, or if this debate will be just another fart in the wind?

HRC and the moderators tag teamed Obama, and IIRC HRC got maybe one question about a negative news story on her lie about sniper fire.  There was no follow up on HRC, not by the moderators or by Obama.

Clearly, HRC and Stephanopolous scripted the debate together.   No wonder she wasn't once caught off-guard.
