That phrase "we are the people we were waiting for", despite the shivers of dread it gives to some, is basically accurate.

Personally I was waiting about 30 years for this and had almost pretty much given up. In fact I thought I had given up hope, but I guess there was still some buried in there. Pleasant surprise. In fact, the whole Obama movement has been one of the most pleasant surprises of my life. I know exactly what Michelle Obama meant when she made that comment about being really proud of America now, because I feel it, too.

This is way too good to ever allow it to end.

    •  Yep. Me too. (6+ / 0-)

People have been desperate to jam this thing into a familiar box so they can either dismiss it or accept it as something familiar.  There is a reason that Hillary's campaign has degenerated into little more than concern trolling.  People want change sometimes but people also fear change.

When I first got involved in this campaign one of the things that hit me was that getting this done would essentially be a big rebuke to cynicism in our lifetimes.

And anyone dismissing the notion of this being a movement was not walking with us to the Jefferson Jackson Dinner that day in Des Moines.

At the same time, I've found it necessary to temper the talk of Movement because people are fearful and suspicious of that.  It's hard to let go of cynicism.  People think it makes them safe.

    •  I've been waiting for 44+ years. (5+ / 0-)

As a thirteen year old,  I was on a class trip to the United Nations in New York on Nov. 22, 1963.

I saw them lower the flags of the nations on the UN plaza.  That was symbolic as the day the World was privatized.

Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world.
