  •  If they are forged, I WILL BET IT IS ROVE! (none)
IF the military documents turned up by "60 minutes" are in fact forged, REPORTERS HAD BETTER START QUESTIONING KARL ROVE.

I just watched "Bush's Brain," which I highly recommend, and this is exactly what Rove would do to distract and smear his opposition.  Think about it, the real news is bad for Bush. So the longer news cycles rehash the Vietnam records of either candidate, the more real news is crowded out and the more voters tune out.  All the better for Bush.

The man is fucking brilliant and we need someone in Kerry's campaign to stick it to this asshole.  I can't wait for the day they convict him of treason for outing Joe Wilson's wife.

At the very least, news media had better start outing Rove's history, so people will understand where the "divided" nation came from.  This isn't the nastiest Presidential election for no reason and the "reason" needs to be known.

I am confident that Kerry will stick it to Bush in the debates when everyone is watching.  I know that it is frustrating now, but we all need to be patient and focussed.  Timing is everything.

    •  Exactly (none)
That's what I proposed to my generally-neutral boss when he was spouting about it.  "Like, some of the 'e's dipped a bit below the baseline, and these are scans, anyway... but, hell, if I were Karl Rove, I most definitely would have planted forgeries to try to deflect Bush's AWOLedness."

Boss looks thoughtful for a moment, then goes back to discussing upcoming client meetings.

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely in my name.

      •  My thoughts exactly (none)
These are either real, or a Karl Rove forgery.  But if Rove had them forged, then it seems like they would be more obvious forgeries.

My bet is that Rove had the forgery response set to go for anything damaging that leaked regarding Bush's AWOL years.  It's worked beautifully, since it's effectively transformed the story from one about Bush's irresponsibility into one about the technical details of the documents.  Rove has made America read between the lines, literally, and all that's there is white space and some black marks.  Nothing to see, move along, this story is dead in a few days.

    •  The Rove outing is an excellent idea ... (none)
Also, reporters should at least ask, Why can't the president clear all this up? Journalists should stop accepting the White House standard line of, "He was honorably discharged so he must have done everything he needed to do."

American voters have a right to know whether he fulfilled his duty.

Folks can e-mail or call MSNBC, The Boston Globe, CNN, Headline News, The Washington Post, etc. and tell them that voters want a story on the facts, not the fonts.
