They do need to recognize the work that we do.  But we're not doing it for the recognition; we're doing it for the good of the country.

We should also consider that not 100% of the country views this site as favorably.  We are "DailyKooks" to quite a few voters out there; this is one of the thigns we fight against.  But ask any politician about what they consider before they engage the netroots, and they might not say that they'll consider this sort of thing...but you'll see it in their face.

Every asset contains the potential to become a liability, just as we seek to turn our liabilities into assets.

[W]e're not doing it for the recognition; we're doing it for the good of the country.

Precisely so.  It was thus in the 50's, 60's and 70's era protests.  And I believe more than a few of The Founders strove to make us never forget our duty to country, and where it stands.

are kooks to many but the republicans in positions of power don't blow them off.

That is a crappy excuse, and frankly if Obama or anyone else wanted to put it to rest, they could do so.

But they do shit like condemn MoveOn on the Senate floor and allow the republicans to praise Limbaugh on the Senate floor for much worse.

I don't buy that at all.

I don't like how the Republicans get away with that kind of crap while Democrats are held to task for it.

That's why I think Obama's absence here, while I don't like it either, is excusable.  I don't like the reasoning for it, but with stupid things like lapel pins and pastors taking center stage, I'm sure that Obama's reasoning is that if he posts here, it'll dominate a news cycle and hurt his campaign when Faux News picks it up; he knows they'll probably take the cuss words somebody will post in the comments and hold him accountable for it.

I wish it weren't so.  Hope on this: he will most definitely post something in January of 2009 after his inauguration.  Believe.
