    we, like many states have vote-by-mail.  but we dont have photo-id-by mail.

    Voting is free, but photo ids cost $25.
    I tried to help one elderly woman get a photo id before the last election, and she would have had to wait 12 weeks and pay $40, or get the "rush"  3 week option which cost over $80.

    The crazy thing is many of the people I know have state-issued medicare cards. They have social security cards. But since they dont drive, they dont have photo id.

    Reasonable laws allow these things as proof of id.

    And therein lies the rub, and shows the true intent of laws like this.  It's not to prevent voter fraud, which doesnt exist anyway.

    It's to prevent the problem of "voting while student" or "voting while disabled and elderly"
