  •  Does it "not fly"? (6+ / 0-)

Three days ago, I'd have agreed with you.

But I detect a real, and unfortunate, mood swing over the last few days.

Just to lay my cards on the table: on the issues, I don't much like either Clinton or Obama.  As political personalities, I can't stand Hillary Clinton but have something of a soft spot for Barack Obama.

But the last few days have made me very, very depressed, all over again, not about either of these politicians in particular, but about our entire political process.

And I suppose I've come to doubt that all the mindless crap that's being flung at Obama isn't flying.

This nicely summarizes what's wrong with American political life today. (Source)

... Sunday night and through Monday, no doubt about it.  But the cableweenies got what they wanted and will now move the Hell on.

I'm sickened by the whole thing, too, but, to the extent that the press influences elections, Obama made himself president today.

I just got off the phone with my brother in Texas. He is informed, but has never been involved politically. This year, he went into the Obama office to get a yard sign, and came out a delegate and involved. He even put a bumper sticker on his car, which he has never done.

So, today, he says that he can't really even offer any arguments, and that he feels that Obama's unwillingness to fight back reinforces the idea that he is inexperienced, which is most people's complaint.

After a long conversation, he acknowledged that it is possible to turn this around, but he believes that it will only happen if Obama goes on the offensive. He doesn't live in the bubble that we do, and I think he may be right.

Being an effective politician and an effective president require different skills. Perhaps diametrically opposed skills. Which could explain why we get such subpar presidents.

We'll see how it plays out, but I think we need a game changer.

I agree about the mood swing, but-- tonight it seems to be swinging back the other way.  Honestly, I've decided to detach more from the media mood swing business. Works better for me.
