I see a perfect storm coming.

Republicans are running out of money and will have to start firing staff, reducing the size and scope of the RNC as well as the Congressional and Senate Caucus staffs.  The remaining staff will just be around to raise money--not much else.

Their big asset, Voter Vault, is like a great big plant.  It must be watered and fertilized frequently or it dies.  They simply cannot stop maintaining Voter Vault.

So the money they raise will go toward internal overhead, fundraising and Voter Vault.

This means that Republican candidates are essentially on their own.  All they get from Republicans is the brand name (lucky, huh?).

In the past, the targeted money has been there to ensure loyalty.  Now candidates will have no financial strings to the party and enormous downside risks to supporting the party line.

Democrats will be flush with cash and will have an inspirational candidate running around the country drawing huge crowds, registering like crazy and producing commercials for all these Democratic hopefuls.

There is an old farm saying: "Do not count chickens prior to their hatching." (not the King James version)

I acknowledge that things will change and that Republicans will have some good days and weeks. But we might see the kind of devestation visited on the Republican Party that no political party has experienced before.

This is what is causing the deep depression right now in the Republican caucus rooms.  They see it coming and they don't really know what to do.
